Informative and empowered birth is the foundation for an informed and empowered family dynamic.
Using tried and true wisdom from the unimaginable number of women who have brought their children onto this plane, combined with modern scientific evidence as a backbone for practice, this creates a birthing space that is both safe and holistically supportive.
Prenatal Care is performed alongside an OB who is respectful of your choice for a home birth. This opens up a dialogue between care providers that allows for proper testing based on where you are in your pregnancy, and lab reports to be sent throughout your care with progression.
Each appointment is one full hour. A lot of parents are surprised by this, but this gives us plenty of time to discuss nutrition, movement, and other factors that may be relevant to your care.
The Midwifery Model of Care is dependent on building a relationship between the provider and the client who is being supported.
Antenatal care is provided once monthly for the first 28 weeks of pregnancy, bi-weekly up until 36 weeks, and weekly until birth.
Starting after the home visit around 36 weeks, this is the time where we go on-call leading up to the birth of your baby!
We will be by your side starting from the beginning of active labor and staying for 3-4 hours beyond that to help you acclimate to your new situation, and make sure that everyone is settled and cozy before tidying up and slipping out to allow for rest and bonding.
In the postpartum period, the visitation starts as early as 24 hours after the birth where additional exams are performed to check on the baby's heart. This is also the time where we do a Metabolic Screening to test for very rare, yet serious complications that need to be addressed by an outside resource.
The three days following the birth we come back to assess feeding as well as check in on the parents, as this is usually a tender time as hormones shift, and sleep is elusive.
Follow-up visits in the office will be scheduled throughout the 6 week postpartum period from there.
